World's cheapest Electric Vehicle

PR Log (Press Release)Mar 07, 2010 – TATA NANO EV: Why EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT WILL WANT and Love this car.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out why. And, believe me, most college students are not. Just  do the math.
At under $10,000.00 USD you can buy or lease one for a 4 years term at under $200 per month.
More interestingly you can charge it on campus free of charge overnight. You get 100 miles per charge and even if you have to pay for electricity it‘s about $1 per 100 miles or 1 penny per mile. The average monthly charging cost for typical 1000 miles per month would around $10.

I would go even further and tell you that maintenance cost is also out of the equation. Now that’s the kind of math high school and college students like. Believe me they are going to love the Nano EV that can sit 4 and is excellent for carpooling.  These guys don’t want to just ride, they want to zeride ( zero emission ride) in ecofriendly and affordable way. The trend is green going forward, it’s just a reality in the making.
How many high school and college students we are talking about? Just do the math again. We are talking hundred of millions from all around the world. Now did I leave out the normal folks from developing and third world countries? You bet I did. That’s another ….Hundred of millions, no kidding.

Now you can see what Tata is up to with the NANO EV. India is about to dominate the EV industry in Evmini cars. Remember Toyota with the Tercel in the 70s! How about VW in the 60’s. That how it starts, my EV friend. We are about to be hit by the EV Tsunami and we would not have seen it coming. We have been talking about EV-Revolution for a while now….well, Tata is leading the charge and is forging ahead full force. Europe in 2011 and I bet you America is next in 2012. Did I dare say China?

Tata is about to put the EV on the map all over the planet and the high school and college students are more than ready to adopt the ipod of the car industry, nothing other than the NanoEv.

PR Log (Press Release)Feb 28, 2010 – Last November I visited the Zap display at the SEMA  international auto show in Vegas. I had a feeling they were very focused and determined people really on a mission to achieve success and bring real cars to the market. I spoke to the representative about my investment as a shareholder and he assured me that that I should hang on to my shares because the company was very aggressive about its future and survival in the Ev world of business.
So I hanged on to my shares, bu what I told him and he did not seem to realize its importance, was that I had also invested in ZapEV.com domain name.
As I was rushing to place a news brief on ElectricVehicleEV.com site about the deal they reached with South Korea to deliver Electric SUVs to them, It became more obvious he was right.

So I Googled  ZAP  and  got  Zapata (zap.com), zinffandel,  zap glue,  zoo,  games etc... even zapworld. But, in the EV domain, only zapEV.com will control the traffic on the evway. Well, the Zappy Dealer who wants to dominate the zap world is likely to be Mr Zapev dot com, no doubt about it.

EleFrance Movment gains traction with  EVmini

German automaker Daimler has  plans to put 1,000 of the Smart mini EVs  beginning 2010  and lease them to selected customers in Europe and the United States by the end of the year. Daimler wants to further refine the technology before gearing up for full-scale production. The same model was followed by BMW last year.

“The Smart for two electric drive proves that emission-free driving in an urban environment is already feasible today,” company chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche said in a statement.

TESLA OPENS THE DOOR TO PREOWNED ELECTRIC VEHICLES  and BATTERY RESALE  MARKETS

“Lease It: The Tesla Roadster for $1,658 a Month. With the Tesla move, it will be interesting to watch how the leasing business model works for electric cars” said  Katie Fehrenbacher in a Newsweek article.

I would even go further than that. What happens after the 3 year lease is that they end up with a bunch of nothing other than Pre owned EVs. This is interesting because the majority of EV enthusiasts cannot afford to buy or lease the roadster as it is. However a pre-owned one, well that’s within reach. You are talking more or less 50% value which falls within the range of the Mercedes and BMW clans. This is a great temptation because this group will not have to go out of their price range to get the coveted Tesla roadster they’ve been drooling over for 2 or 3 years. I am pretty sure they will be able to trade in and reduce out of pocket expenses to get into a premier Luxury Electric Vehicle (LuxuryEV).

While the Tesla story is important as far as the High end sector of the electric auto is concerned, the mass also stand to benefit from the after lease market. Many who adopt a wait and see attitude, as was the case with the computer in the late 80s, will venture into the EV camp after an initial period of  seeing and believing. The BYD E6, The Coda sedan, The Nissan Leaf would have already proven themselves. When the mass stampede occurs 3-5 years down the road, there will be plenty of cheap PreOwned Electric Vehicles around as opposed to the high prices of the introduction phase.

Another anticipated outcome from the proliferation of electric cars will be the upgrading of batteries for better range and fast charging capability. This will become trendy as nanobatteries such as the nanosafe from Altairnano become more affordable. Once the EV owners start developing an appetite for more Amps(power) and move up the ladder there will be lots of “older” batteries available for resale. Expect Battery Resale Programs to flourish along with the acceptance of Preowned EVs as an entry point to the EVway for some. For others the discarded  lithium ion batteries will find needed recycling by way of the conversion of a gas car into electric, replacing lead acid that are being used now.

As you can see there will be a cascade or domino effect to a seemingly benign decision by Tesla to offer the luxury roadster for lease.  Batteryresale and availability of PreOwnedEVs are shaping up on the horizon as a lucrative business sector within the EV industry for years to come .

Plug In America, a nonprofit group leading the clean-vehicle movement, is issuing the following list of common misconceptions or “myths” about all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars. Media and others continue to misunderstand and mischaracterize this new technology. Thousands of these clean vehicles—many of them zero-emission—are expected to start coming to auto dealerships in late 2010. See Plug In America’s Tracker for a comprehensive list of such vehicles on the road today and expected for delivery in 2010 and beyond.

Acronyms and definitions:
· EV: Electric Vehicle, meaning all-electric (no gas)
· BEV: Battery Electric Vehicle or all-electric vehicle
· PHEV: Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle
· Plug-in or Plug-in electric vehicle: Either a BEV or a PHEV

Number of EVs Driven Today:
Plug In America estimates that there are 3,000 highway-capable EVs from major automakers on U.S. roads today:
· 800 Toyota RAV4-EVs
· 1,000 Teslas

· 150 Ford Ranger trucks

· 50 Chevy S-10 trucks

· 500 others including Solectrias and EPIC Mini-Vans

MYTH: EVs don't have enough range. You'll be stranded when you run out of electricity
FACT: Americans drive an average of 40 miles per day, according to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. Most new BEVs have a range of at least double that and can be charged at any ordinary electrical outlet (120V) or publicly accessible station with a faster charger. The latter, already in use, will proliferate as the plug-in infrastructure is built out. At present, all it takes is planning for EV owners, who can travel up to 120 miles on a single charge, to use their cars on heavy travel days. Alternatively, a PHEV goes at least 300 miles on a combination of electricity and gasoline.

Myth: EVs are good for short city trips only
FACT: Consumers have owned and driven EVs for seven years or more and regularly use them for trips of up to 120 miles.

MYTH: EVs just replace the tailpipe with a smokestack
FACT: Even today, with 52% of U.S. electricity generated by coal-fired power plants, plug-in cars reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and most other pollutants compared with conventional gas or hybrid vehicles. Plug-ins can run on renewable electricity from sources such as the sun or wind. PHEVs will reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions, even if the source of electricity is mostly coal, a 2007 study by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and NRDC showed. Read the summary of some 30 studies, analyses and presentations on this topic.

MYTH: The charging infrastructure must be built before people will adopt EVs
FACT: Most charging will be done at home, so a public charging infrastructure isn’t a prerequisite. Still, a robust infrastructure will help, especially for apartment dwellers and those regularly driving long distances. But at least seven companies are competing to dominate the public-charging-station market and a trade group representing the nation's electric utilities has pledged to “aggressively” create the infrastructure to support “full-scale commercialization and deployment” of plug-ins.

MYTH: The grid will crash if millions of plug-ins charge at once
FACT: Off-peak electricity production and transmission capacity could fuel the daily commutes of 73% percent of all cars, light trucks, SUVs and vans on the road today if they were PHEVs, a 2007 study by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory found. Also, utilities are upgrading some local distribution systems to accommodate plug-ins, just as they do when residents add more air conditioners and TVs. Plug-ins, which can be seen as energy storage devices on wheels, can actually benefit the grid, making green energies like solar and wind power even more viable.

MYTH: Battery chemicals are bad for the environment and can't be recycled
FACT: Ninety-nine percent of batteries in conventional cars are recycled, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The metals in newer batteries are more valuable and recycling programs are already being developed for them. Utilities plan to use batteries for energy storage once they are no longer viable in a vehicle.

MYTH: EVs take too long to charge
FACT: The most convenient place and time to charge is at home while you sleep. Even using the slowest 120-volt outlet, the car can be left to charge overnight, producing about 40 miles of range. Most new BEVs and PHEVs will charge from 240-volt outlets providing double or triple the charge in the same amount of time. Charging stations that reduce charging time even more are beginning to appear.

MYTH: Plug-ins are too expensive for market penetration
FACT: New technologies are typically costly. Remember when cell phones and DVDs were introduced? Also, the government stimulus package includes a $2,500 to $7,500 tax credit for EVs and PHEVs. Some states are considering additional incentives ($5,000 in California and Texas). And, the purchase and lifetime operating cost of an EV is on par with or less than its gas-powered equivalent because EVs require almost no maintenance or repair: no oil or filter changes, no tune ups, no smog checks.

MYTH: Batteries will cost $15,000 to replace after only a few years
FACT: The battery is the priciest part of a plug-in, but costs will drop as production increases and the auto industry is expected to be purchasing up to $25 billion in advanced batteries annually by 2015. Some car makers plan to lease their batteries, so replacement won’t be an issue. The Chevy Volt PHEV will have a 10-year battery warranty that would cover battery replacement.

MYTH: There isn't enough lithium in the world to make all the new batteries
FACT: Even in a worst-case scenario of zero battery recycling, aggressive EV sales, no new mining methods or sites, existing lithium stores will be sufficient for projected EV production for the next 75 years. See an analysis at PlugInAmerica.org. Also, lithium comes from many countries (24% is found in the United States), so we won’t be dependent on any one global region.

MYTH: Lithium batteries are dangerous and can explode
FACT: Among the many kinds of lithium-ion batteries, lithium-cobalt batteries found in consumer electronics can pose a fire risk in certain circumstances. These risks can be mitigated by the use of advanced-battery management systems and careful design that prevents “thermal runaway.” Most plug-in vehicle makers are working with other battery types (such as lithium-iron-phosphate and lithium-manganese) which have inherent safety advantages and provide more years of service.

MYTH: Most of us will still be driving gas cars through 2050
FACT: Several irrefutable factors are driving the shift from gasoline to plug-in vehicles: ever-toughening federal fuel economy standards and state caps on greenhouse gas emissions; projected price hikes for petroleum products as demand increases and supply flattens or drops; broad agreement over the need for America to reduce its reliance on petroleum for economic and national security reasons; and climate change, which is occurring faster than previously thought, according to the journal Science and many other sources.
About Plug In America: Plug In America is leading the nation’s plug-in vehicle movement. The nonprofit organization works to accelerate the shift to plug-in vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity to reduce our nation's dependence on petroleum and improve the global environment. Tata Nano EV Concept - Auto Shows

The thrifty Indian subcompact gets an electric makeover.

BY MARK GILLIES

2010-2020: Electric Vehicle Electrician to be in high demand.

Career outlook for an EV electrician is good: $40-$60,000/ year.

As governments around the world implement the newest green initiative they want to see Electric Vehicles (EV) widely manufactured as means to reduce dependence on foreign oil, combat global warming and as part of a shift toward exploiting alternative energy sources.

An EV most likely will require some repair by someone other than a traditional automobile mechanic. A new breed of “EV electrician” may be required for many of the problems that an electric vehicle will develop.

As the electric vehicle replaces the traditional gasoline auto, a shift in traditional mechanic job description and demand will ensue. Beside being an automobile mechanic and having hands on ability, a new requirement to become a licensed electrician to work on an electric vehicle will be needed because safety is always a concern. A licensed electrician is generally better trusted to avoid hazards that can cause fires or electrocutions.

This is the decade for this field to continue to grow. Retraining will be needed for traditional mechanics, and licensed electricians. They will need cross-training in both auto mechanics and electrical engineering to keep up with the high demand that the expected electric vehicle expansion will engender.

It seems that there is , starting in 2010, a rush by all of the major automakers to get their electric vehicle introduced to the market before their competitors. This ushers the advent of different type of automobile mechanics with electrician skills in order to troubleshoot the electrical component of these electric vehicles.

This will be a growing field where you can envision more experienced and specialized “Ev-mechanics" to demand top pay as they may be needed to train the newly converted traditional mechanics, in addition to the new recruits.

One more "green" job occupation to continue to grow through 2010-2020, the EV decade, as gas cars are being supplanted by more energy efficient electric vehicles.
